Turmeric, Ginger, Cacao and Matcha: Pukka’s New Range of Lattes are Delicious!

“A turmeric latte with oat mylk please,” is a sentence that both my purse and my street cred fear. They’re pricey, fancy and annoyingly satisfying.

However, to save dough, I’ve bought a packet mix in the past, whipped it up as per the instructions and suffered through a very expensive cup of what tasted like spicey chicken stock.

Pukka have just launched these organic latte mixes and I was fortunate enough to attend the press launch, where I tried them all.

They’re all a delicious mix of medicinal grade spices and herbs with the classic Pukka Ayurvedic bent, so they don’t just taste good but they’re designed to make you feel better! Here are some of the flavours:

Majestic Matcha Chai

Matcha tea is a wonderful pick-me-up. Compared to the caffeine spikes of coffee and black tea, Matcha is beloved by Japanese students for the steady energy it provides them with when revising for exams. Matcha lattes are ALL over Instagram, and if, like me, you’ve only ever been able to taste foamy pond water, Pukka’s latte could be for you. The bitter tang of green tea is offset with sweetness from liquorice and warmth of cinammon and cardamom.

Honest opinion? This one wasn’t for me. I just have to accept that the Matcha latte gang is a gang I’ll never be part of.

Turmeric Gold

Over the past few years, many have celebrated the antioxidant and liver rejuvenating properties of turmeric, something I’m really conscious of after being on hormonal contraception pill (the liver processes oestrogen). I’ll often go for a turmeric latte when I fancy a treat that’s still going to do me good.

This is utterly delicious! The cardamom and saffron are richly warming and the turmeric is there as a spicy backnote (I think I made this word up, but you get me) rather than the watery stock experiences I spoke of of from the past!

Ginger Joy

Ginger is a must for me when I’m coming down with a sore throat, and I often get an annoying summer cold. This was the right level of fiery – really satisfying but not make-you-sweat levels – and it was really delicious with the cinnamon notes.

Cacao Maca Magic

I saved my favourite for last! OK so I think any regular reader of MTF knows I really love chocolate. If I saw this on a menu it would be the one I’d order, no question! What makes this extra special is that it has ashwagandha, which is an incredibly soothing adaptogen that helps the body adapt to stress, and is something that I take daily. There’s also shatavari, which I find really important for and effective at regulating my hormones.

It’s utterly delicious. It’s chocolately and smooth and thick and nourishing. The only issue is the maca and cacao are quite uplifting, and give me a bit of a buzz (seriously, two cups of builders tea and I can’t sleep – I’m really caffeine sensitive!) so it’s more of a late afternoon treat than my initial plan for it: pudding.

These are so easy to make. You just put a heaped teaspoon in a mug and then gently heat up 250ml of milk/mylk of your choice. I used Yeo Valley whole milk. I think put a splash of milk on the powder mix, whisk it up in the cup using a teaspoon or mini whisk (careful not to splash!) and then, when there are no clumps, pour in the rest of the milk and stir.

These are £4.99 with 15 servings per packet! That’s amazing! You can get them at Tesco’s.
