Marie-Sophie Wilson-Carr

I was first struck by Marie-Sophie’s face when I saw her in a group shot with MTF interviewee, Jayne Windsor. It was a Lindbergh picture and I just found Marie-Sophie’s face so bold, strong angular and beautiful, it was like seeing a Modigliani picture.

Further stalking research revealed a solemn, almost mournful face – Marie-Sophie describes herself as a punk, having been discovered as a rock music-loving student in North France – so you won’t get any cheesy smiles here. It’s those eyes and lips – the heavy lidded, enormous and always somewhat sorrowful eyes are so piercing, and the lips are a soft and full contrast to the incredible angular lines of her jaw, cheekbones and forehead. It’s a bit like she’s been supplanted from a Victorian portrait and into a modern fashion photoshoot, which is probably why Linbergha and Avedon shot her so much.

Marie-Sophie still pops up for the odd campaign and, most, recently, the Simone Rocha catwalk show that featured lots of familiar faces from the decades, including Jan De Villeneuve. Those strong features have stood her in good stead and she remains an arresting face, a balance between masculine and feminine, soft and hard. A little known but very successful model, and a very inspiring #ModelCrushMonday!
